$2 Million Allocated for Levee Maintenance at Rosecrans Memorial Airport

JEFFERSON CITY — Sen. Rob Schaaf, R-St. Joseph, is pleased to announce that House Bill 2004, passed by both the Senate and House today and delivered to the governor, includes $2 million for construction and repairs of levees located near St. Joseph to help protect the Rosecrans Memorial Airport.

Rosecrans Memorial Airport is the home of the National Guard’s 139th Airlift Wing.

During the massive flood of 1993 and 2011, the levees did not fully protect the airport as they should have and out the guard base at risk. This funding can continue the maintenance process for the levees necessary to protect the airport from future devastating flood waters.

“The allocation of these funds for maintaining our levees will protect the airport which is vital to the St. Joseph area,” said Sen. Schaaf. “The airport is an economic driver for northwest Missouri and northeast Kansas. These funds are necessary to better protect this critical industry for the long-term wellbeing of both our city and state.”
